Fano the city of Vitruvius, place of art and culture
Fano, the city of fortune due to the legendary temple (the Fanum Fortunae) which gave it its name, is also the city of Augustus due to the monumental honorary gate (the Arch of Augustus) and the walls with which the first emperor had the the "colony" he built himself after having commissioned the famous architect Vitruvius to embellish the forum with an imposing Basilica. Over the centuries here is the medieval Fano with the Romanesque Cathedral and the imposing Palazzo del Podestà of Magister Paulutius and, again, the Fano dei Malatesti with its Rocca, the majestic Tombali Arches and the suggestive quadrilateral of the Malatestiana Court.
Overlooking the main square, characterized by the "Fontana della Fortuna", the neoclassical Theater of the same name with the splendid hall by Luigi Poletti. And, all around, within the circle of the historic center, streets and alleys that follow the paths of the ancient cardi and decumani.

The mystery of the new archaeological finds envelops the city of Fano: the remains of what could be the Basilica of Vitruvius emerge, a search that has lasted for 500 years and which could have brought to light one of the most famous buildings of antiquity, described by Vitruvius himself in his treatise “De Architectura”.
