Montevecchio Palace

In the historic heart of Fano stands one of the largest and most elegant patrician residences in the city, an 18th century palace belonging to the important noble Montevecchio family and emblem of the cultural and architectural rebirth of the city.

Palazzo Montevecchio was built starting from the mid-1700s, the design and construction were the work of Alfonso Torreggiani and Arcangelo Vici and, finally, Biagio Biaschelli who was responsible for the central part of the facade. The palace belonged to the ancient family of the counts of Montevecchio until the first half of the 20th century, a family that includes important protagonists of the city's history and valiant leaders, including Giulio di Montevecchio who personally took care of the construction of the current residence.
The central part of the facade is characterized by an imposing baroque stone portal flanked by Tuscan columns that support the balustrade of the balcony. Once you enter the palace you cannot help but be fascinated by the large columned atrium, in whose internal courtyard stands the splendid fountain with the statue of the god Neptune and an elegant elliptical nymphaeum. The grand staircase of honor is certainly of great visual impact, the typical architectural element of eighteenth-century patrician homes. A very scenic structure that starts from the central well and rises to the top floor in a riot of niches, columns and marble statues, the building today is internally divided into several apartments, as is the majestic reception hall which in the past had vaults painted, unfortunately no longer visible today; only a few well-preserved decorations remain in the rooms on the second floor.
