Today you can take a virtual journey retracing the ancient consular Via Flaminia and immerse yourself in ancient Roman Fano. The museum of the Via Flaminia, symbolically placed next to the Arch of Augustus, allows an extraordinary immersive journey into the archaeological heritage of the city and the symbol of the history and identity of the territory.
A carpet "disguised" as a geographical map, touch screen stations and a gigantic sheet depicting the symbolic monuments of Roman history, from Ponte Milvio to the Arch of Augustus: the new Museum of the Via Flaminia, thanks to original digital contents and a sophisticated technological apparatus, it is an immersive museum that arouses suggestions and emotions and allows you to virtually connect to the archaeological heritage of the city of Fano and the territory of the Via Flaminia. Inaugurated in 2016 and housed in the church of San Michele, next to the Arch of Augustus, the point where the Via Flaminia enters the city as the decumanus maximus, the Museum is structured in such a way as to immerse the visitor in a virtual journey to discover Roman times of the territory and the city, thanks to videos, interviews and augmented reality viewers.
Inside the room, divided into three sections, it is possible to discover the history of the ancient consular road that connected Rome to Fano, observe the walls built by Emperor Augustus and the related access gates, including the gate of Augustus and the Porta della Mandria, discover the theater and the amphitheatre, the remains of the Augusteum, the monumental cryptoporticus as well as structures referable to domus, suburban villas and extra-urban burial areas. To further enrich the museum, two monitors dedicated to Vitruvius and the current urban layout which perfectly follows the Roman one.
